Enlisting and Providing Support

  • Questions you have with which your colleagues may be able to provide help and support
  • Resources and information you are seeking
  • Resources and/or information you have found helpful and insightful

This is probably the hardest assignment that I have ever worked on. I think that what I am having the biggest problem with is writing the plan it self. In my mind, I know what I want to do and what I want to accomplish but to put it into writing and action is another story. Does anyone have any helpful hints? Also, How is everyone presenting your plan to your group? I have found some information on the NEA (National Education Association) website. It lists lots of different issues and actions that may be helpful to some of you like child nutrition and IDEA/special education.

  1. I am planning to present my plan with a speech and a handout. I am having the internship site director, assistant director, and my host teacher attend. Since this is the first formal presentation about my advocacy plan, I am stating simple. My goal is to inform the internship site of my research and see where it goes from there. I am trying not to make this presentation more complex than it needs to be. I was quite nervous about this course, but I found myself overthinking things a lot. I am taking the perspective of this presentation is just informing my internship site about my research and experience with my issue. Best of luck in your presentation.

  2. I have struggled with this class as well and I felt that a Power Point was the best technique for me. I will use the Power point to help introduce and enhance what I'm trying to explain. Sometimes Power points are the best choices because you can do so much with them to keep peoples interest. It's important to keep the presentation moving and stay focused on your goals:) Remember we are all in this together and we are learning from each other.

    1. I was thinking about Power Point also. I use it to organize my thoughts while teaching in Sunday School. May be that is a good route.

  3. Christina,

I have also had a hard time trying to decide how to present my plan and how I needed to word everything. After reading so many comments from our classmates I think that a PowerPoint or speech with a handout about your topic is the best approach. I plan on present my plan to the group as like we are just having a conversation I do not want to overthink what I am saying and I think that if I just talk like we have known each other for a long time I will feel better since getting up in front of group of strangers to talk is not my favorite thing in the world. Good luck on your presentation and do what come naturally to you that will make you feel good about the job you are doing.

  5. Hi Christina,
This has been my hardest and most challenging class so far. I am confident that we will all be able to do it if we put our minds to it. Just speak from the heart and you can't go wrong. Good luck :)

  6. I have been struggling with that too. I decided that I will be using informational handouts and video. Im debating on powerpoint since I am still unclear if I will be able to use the projector at the site. As far as any helpful hints I would have to say, break down the information you want to share. Kind of in an outline format, then look at it and decide how you would want it presented to you as a person who didnt know this information. Ask yourself, what would keep my attention? Thats what i did, and am doing. Hope that helps! Good luck!!! :0)
